About

John Thomas Rose is a photographer and videographer based in Ventura, Calif. He has been a staff adviser to the student newspaper, The Channels, at Santa Barbara City College since 2013. He is a Laboratory Teacher's Assistant and advises student journalists in photography, videography, video editing and online publishing.


Rose graduated from Brooks Institute in Ventura, CA in 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in visual journalism. He spent 7 weeks in Vietnam working on the annual international documentary project, and worked on two domestic documentaries that took him to New York and The Black Rock Desert in Nevada while studying at Brooks. Rose gained newsroom experience while photo editing and shooting during a four-month multimedia internship at the Science Desk at National Public Radio headquarters in Washington, D.C. He also holds a second bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Elmhurst College.
